If something worries you
You know your child best. If your child isn't reaching one or more milestones, has lost skills they once had, or you have other concerns, talk with your child's doctor. The CDC says not to wait. You can also contact your state's early intervention program at cdc.gov/FindEI.
Things to try at 5 years (from the CDC)
- Ask your child what she is playing. Help her expand her answers by asking "Why?" and "How?" For example, say "That's a nice bridge you're building. Why did you put it there?"
- Play with toys that encourage your child to put things together, such as puzzles and building blocks.
