Baby milestones by month

What most babies and kids do by each age, straight from the CDC's milestone checklists. Pick an age, tick off what you've seen, and bring the list to your next checkup.

How to use these checklists

Developmental milestones are things most children (75% or more) can do by a certain age. Each list below comes word for word from the CDC's Learn the Signs. Act Early. checklists, grouped the same way: social and emotional, language, learning, and movement.

Tick off what you've seen, then print the page and take it to your child's next well visit. Every child grows at their own pace, and the doctor looks at the whole picture.

What are developmental milestones?

Things most children (75% or more) can do by a certain age, like smiling, babbling or taking steps. The CDC groups them into social, language, learning and movement milestones.

What if my child isn't doing everything on the list yet?

Talk with your child's doctor at the next visit, or sooner if you're worried. The CDC says not to wait, and you can also contact your state's early intervention program at cdc.gov/FindEI.

Are these checklists a developmental screening?

No. The CDC notes its checklists don't replace standardized developmental screening, which your child's doctor does at well-child visits.
